The Grounds section of the Metal Works and Grounds Department is an integral part of the DPS maintenance team, taking care of virtually every aspect that can occur outside the building at the 151 district-wide sites. From athletic fields to trash removal to playground equipment; the 27 members of the Grounds Team are seen and recognized on a daily basis, performing functions that are essential to the day to day operations of the district. Whether a problem is brought to the Department's attention via school staff, a community member or neighbor, or a member of the Grounds team; the issue is addressed in a timely and professional manner.

In addition to the 27 full time employees, the Grounds Department hires an average of 15 seasonal helpers each year to complete valuable extra work during the summer months (roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day). During the average month, the Grounds Crew receives 315 work requests and of those, completes/closes 285; resulting in a 90% monthly completion rate. In addition, there is a backlog of 550 work orders that are continuously being worked upon.
