MISSION

The Operations Department strives to create an enriching environment that is safe and orderly, which supports the Denver Public Schools commitment in promoting academic achievement and a quality education for all students.

OVERVIEW

The main responsibility of the Operations Department is to assure that every facility is open and operational each and every day of the year to accommodate normal class schedules. In addition, buildings are often used by the community and school groups requiring additional recourses and personnel on weekends and evenings to accommodate night classes, sports activities, and various community events.

STRUCTURE

Each building is staffed with a variety of skilled employees depending on its size.

  • Facility Managers (FM): Oversee the day to day operations of each site to include mechanical systems, heating and ventilation systems, grounds care, directing cleanliness functions and supervising custodial staffs.
  • Assistant Facility Managers (AFM): Continues overseeing the day to day operations of each site, for the second custodial shift, under the direction of the FM. They supervise custodial staffs and unsure the facility's readiness for the next business day.
  • Custodial Helpers (8 hours): Assists with building / grounds tasks and performs minor maintenance under the direction of the FM and AFM.
  • Part-Time Custodial Helpers (4 hours): Assists with building / grounds tasks and performs minor maintenance under the direction of the FM and AFM.

Area Supervisor Zones of Responsibility

Each Area Supervisor is assigned a particular area (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, or Combined-Sites). Please refer to Doc. A below.

When the Area Supervisor assigned to a particular area is absent, the Area Supervisor Absence Coverage document (Doc. B) is provided for your use and reference. For each facility listed, the Area Supervisor listed in the parentheses is to be contacted when the regularly assigned Area Supervisor is absent. These individuals are for back-up only and are only to be called in the event the regularly assigned Area Supervisor is not available.
